Configuration - Probe Agent Administration

Use this window to assign the agents that should perform probes against the:

This window provides a complete listing of the licensed NetWare volumes, NAS filers, and IBM TotalStorage SAN File Systems (IBM SAN File System) discovered by Aperi Storage Manager.

The volumes/filesystems in NetWare and NAS servers appear in this window if one of the following occurred:

If the product could not automatically license an IBM SAN File System cluster after discovery, the IBM SAN File System cluster and its root fileset will not be listed on this window. If this occurs, you must manually license the IBM SAN File System cluster using the Licensing panel.

Note: You must use this window to assign an agent to each NetWare volume, NAS filesystem, or IBM SAN File System you want to probe using a probe job. If you do not assign an agent to a volume/filesystem, storage statistics will not be gathered for that volume/filesystem.

Tip: You can assign an agent to scan one or more filesystems. However, keep in mind that the size of a filesystem affects the speed at which that filesystem is probed. Distributing filesystem probing responsibilities among different agents can greatly increase the speed at which scan information is gathered. For example, if you have three small filesystems and one large one, you might want to assign one agent to each of the three smaller filesystems, and a different agent to the large filesystem.

Field Descriptions

Field Name

Description

Set agent per row

Highlight a row in the window and click this button to assign an agent to a single volume/filesystem. When you click this button, the Filesystem Agent Editor window appears.

Set agent for all selected rows

Highlight multiple rows in the window and click this button to assign one agent to multiple volumes. When you click this button, the Filesystem Agent Editor window appears.

Server

The name of the NetWare server, NAS filer, or IBM SAN File System cluster where a volume or filesystem is located.

Domain

The domain of the NetWare server or NAS filer where a volume or filesystem is located.

Tree Name

The tree of the NetWare server where a volume is located.

Filesystem

The name of a volume/filesystem. In the case of an IBM SAN File System cluster, this field shows the name of the root fileset.

Scan/Probe Agent

The agent currently associated with a volume/filesystem for scanning purposes.
