The alerting feature enables you to define alerts for storage-related events that occur within your environment. You can define alerts as part of monitoring jobs, or use the Alerting nodes within Disk Manager, Data Manager, and Fabric Manager to define resource-specific alerts.
For example, you can use the Alerting > Computer Alerts node within Data Manager to alert you if a computer's RAM increased or a new disk was detected. You can also define an alert to be triggered if one of your monitoring jobs fails.
Aperi Storage Manager keeps a log of the alerts that have been triggered and organizes that log according to alert type. See the alert log for more information.
The following are the available alert types:
|
Alert type |
What does this alert do? |
Where do you define this alert in the user interface? |
| Storage Subsystem | Use this alert to be notified when a condition is detected on a storage subsystem during a scan, such as the cache increased, a storage subsystem could not be found, etc. | Disk Manager |
|
Computer |
Use this alert to be notified when a condition is detected on a computer during a probe, such as RAM increased, a new disk was detected, etc. |
Data Manager |
| Disk | Use this alert to be notified when a condition is detected on a disk during a probe, such as RAM increased, a new disk was detected, etc. | Data Manager |
|
Filesystem |
Use this alert to be notified when a condition is detected on a filesystem during a scan, such as freespace is running out, it could not be found, etc. |
Data Manager |
|
Fabric |
Use this alert to be notified when a condition is detected on a fabric during a probe, such as fabric state changes, fabric property changes, etc. |
Fabric Manager |
|
Switch |
Use this alert to be notified when a condition is detected on a switch during a probe, such as a switch was discovered, there was a switch blade change, etc. |
Fabric Manager |
|
Endpoint Device |
Use this alert to be notified when a condition is detected on an endpoint device, such as an endpoint was discovered, endpoint to node change, etc. |
Fabric Manager |
| External | Use this alert to view the external notifications that have been received from outside Aperi Storage Manager. These notifications might include SNMP traps sent to the product, CIM Indications it has received, HBA notifications, etc. | |
| Tape Library | Use this alert to be notified when a condition is detected on a tape library. | Tape Manager |
Once you have defined the events or conditions for which you want to be alerted, the product monitors your storage assets for you. When a condition is met and alert is triggered, you can choose to be notified through a number of methods.
|
Alert Mechanism |
Enables you to... |
|
SNMP Trap |
generate an SNMP trap message to any NMS, console, or terminal to indicate the occurrence of an alert. |
|
Login Notification |
send alerts to a specified user upon logging in to the system. |
|
Windows Event Log, UNIX Syslog |
record alerts to the OS Event Log. If you already have an administrator monitoring OS logs, this is an easy way to have all of your priority messages centralized for quick notification and viewing. |
|
Run Script |
run a script in response to an alert. |
|
|
send alerts via email to email addresses that you specify. |
