Monitoring: Groups

This topic contains conceptual information about groups. It also describes how to create and modify storage-subsystem groups.

What is a group?

A storage-subsystem group is a set of storage subsystems against which you can run monitoring jobs. You can create groups that contain similar storage subsystems, for example, SAN volume controller models. This enables you to run a monitoring job against a relevant grouping of storage subsystems.

By default, all storage subsystems belong to the following group: Default.Default Storage Subsystem Group. A storage subsystem can belong to only one group at a time. If you create a user-defined group that contains a specific storage subsystem, the storage subsystem is removed from any previously created group. If the storage subsystem has not been previously assigned to a user-defined group, it is removed from the default storage-subsystem group.

Creating a storage-subsystem group

To create a storage-subsystem group, complete the following steps:

  1. Expand the Monitoring > Groups node.
  2. Right-click Storage Subsystems, and click Create Storage Subsystem Group. In the right pane, the Create Storage Subsystem Group window is displayed.
  3. In the Description field, type a short description of the group.
  4. In the Available field, click the storage subsystems that you want to assign to the group, and click >>. The storage subsystems are moved to the Current Selections field.
  5. Click File > Save.

Modifying a storage-subsystem group

To edit a storage-subsystem group, complete the following steps:

  1. Expand the Monitoring > Groups node.
  2. Click the storage-subsystem group that you want to modify. In the right pane, the Edit <Group name> window is displayed.
  3. Make the necessary changes.
  4. Click File > Save.
