Objects overview

An object is a physical device or logical resource discovered by the product. Many classes of objects are supported by the product, such as computers, switches, and fabrics. Both the graphical and tabular views of the topology viewer support all objects that are recognized as valid classes of objects.

The topology viewer displays all supported objects with an appropriate icon based on the object class. For example, a computer object will be displayed in the graphical view with an icon representing a computer.

All objects - known, unknown, or missing - are shown in both the graphical and tabular views. In the graphical view, known objects are shown with the icon that represents the object class. If an object's class cannot be determined, it will be represented by an Unknown icon. Objects that are known but could not be discovered in the most recent discovery are shown with a grayed-out icon of that object class. In addition, if the health overlay is turned on, missing objects show a health status of Missing.

Groups of objects

Objects can also be included in groups, and those groups represented by group icons in the topology, or as nested lines in the tabular view. Including objects in groups makes it easier to perform tasks on multiple objects at the same time. See Groups overview for more information about groups in the topology.

Object attributes

Each class of object has a set of attributes. While some attributes are displayed in the topology view, the primary way to access the attributes of an object is in the tabular view. Many objects can also have user-defined properties assigned to them. User-defined properties are abbreviated as UDP in the column headings of the tabular view. User-defined properties can also be used to group objects.
