COSMOS Installation Guide

Installing Resource Modeling Tooling (SML validator and SML-IF Editor)

Resource modeling tooling comes with SML editor, and validator. SML validator validates SML and SML-IF files.

SML editor creates and validates SML-IF documents used to exchange information between systems management applications. To install Resource Modeling Tooling, download the following packages from the COSMOS download page:
  1. Model Developer (available in SML validator and SML-IF Editor [Resource Modeling] section)
  2. Eclipse SDK 3.4

Automatic Installation

After downloading these packages, unzip them to the same directory. If Eclipse is already installed in the user environment, then it is important that you do not choose a different folder, as the zip file includes path information so that the feature and plug-in files are installed in the correct folders.

Restart the Eclipse workbench (if it is already running) to activate the new plug-ins. To do this, select File, Restart from the Workbench menu.

Manual Installation

For an alternative installation method, you can manually copy the contents of the downloaded SML-IF tooling plug-in zip file to the Eclipse installation directory. The zip file contains a plugins folder and a features folder inside the uncompressed download.

Do the following:

  1. Download the latest SML tooling plug-in zip file.
  2. Extract the contents of the SML-IF tooling plug-in zip file.
  3. Copy contents from the downloaded plugins folder into your Eclipse plugins subdirectory.
  4. Copy contents from the downloaded features folder into your Eclipse features subdirectory.
  5. Restart the Eclipse workbench (if already running) to activate the new plug-ins.

Resource Modeling Tools usage details can be found in the COSMOS User's Guide.

Update Site Installation

SML tooling can also be installed using the Eclipse Update Manager. An Eclipse update site for installation of COSMOS plug-ins and features is available at COSMOS 1.0.0 update site installation.
