Exercise: Contribute to a Role

The goal of this exercise is to extend a role by adding a contribution. This exercise adds content to the "My Plug-in" plug-in. If you have not completed the Create Core Method Content tutorial, do so before continuing.

1. Switch to the Authoring perspective.

 

2. Create a Content Package in the My Plugin plug-in called "Contribution Test".

 

3. In the new Contribution Test content package, create a new Role called "my_contributing_ui_designer".

 

4. Page down the Description tab to the Content Variability section and then, in the Variability Type , select Contributes and choose the base role: rup_user_interface_designer . You will find this in RUP > Design > GUI Design.

 

5. Complete the following:
   • Add Brief Description: Contributing brief description text
   • Add Main Description : Contributing main description text
   • Save (by closing the role editor).

 

6. Create a new configuration by selecting the Configurations folder in the Library View tree.

 

7. Right click the folder to create new configuration. Name the configuration "Variability Configuration".

 

8. Select the OpenUp Basic base and your plug-in (My Plug-in) by marking the checkboxes. Save the configuration by closing the Configuration tab.

 

9. Set "current configuration" located under main menu bar as "Variability Configuration".

 

10. Switch to the Browsing perspective and then open the User-Interface Designer role.

 

11. You should see the text that you included in the contributing role displayed in the User-Interface Designer.

Note: The Configuration View resolves the variability relationships between related plug-ins in a configuration and shows the results as they will be published in a published web site.
