Reuse Method Content: Contribute to a Work Product

The goal of this exercise is to extend a Work Product by adding a contribution.

1. Switch to the Authoring perspective if you are not already using it.

 

2. Locate the Work products folder under the Contribution Test folder. Right-click on this icon and select New then select Artifact.

 



 

3. Give the new artifact the following attributes:

    

   • Name: my_contributing_test_case
   • Presentation name: My Contributing Test Case
   • Brief description: Contributing Brief Description
   • Main description: Contributing Main Description
   • Purpose: Contributing Purpose

 

4. Use the Variability Type menu to select Contributes, then click the Select... button in this section. The Select Dialog: Artifacts window will appear.

 

5. Select test_case and click OK to close this window.

 



 

6. Save your changes by closing the editor.

 

7. Now switch back to the Browsing perspective and use the configuration view to locate the Test Case. Recall this artifact is a type of Work Product.

 



 

8. Double-click on this icon to invoke the editor. The description now has text that you included in the contributing artifact. You'll see it appended to the appropriate fields in the customized test case.

    

   

    

   This is another example of using contributing variabity to customize content in one plug-in by making changes to another plug-in.
