Configuring your browser for test recording

If you use a browser other than Microsoft Internet Explorer for test recording, you must configure it to use a proxy.

If your browser is Microsoft Internet Explorer, you do not need to configure it.

If you use a Windows computer and you want to use a browser other than Internet Explorer, first go to go to Windows > Preferences > Test > HTTP Proxy Recorder and change the Application to record setting from Internet Explorer to None. Then configure your browser as explained below. On Linux computers, None is the default browser setting so you need not change it.

To configure your browser for test recording:
  1. Start the browser.
  2. Configure the browser to use a proxy. The following steps explain how to do this for either Mozilla 1.6 or Netscape 7.x. If you use a different browser or release, consult its documentation on proxy configuration.
    1. Select Edit > Preferences. The Preferences dialog box opens.
    2. In the Category pane on the left, expand Advanced and click Proxies.

    3. Select Manual proxy configuration.
    4. In the SOCKS Host: field, type localhost; in the corresponding Port: field, type 1080; underneath these fields, check SOCKS v4.
    5. Clear the No Proxy For: field.
    6. Click OK.
Your browser is now configured for test recording. It will not work for internet browsing. If you want to use the browser for internet browsing, simply return to the dialog box shown above and select Direct connection to the internet. The proxy configuration settings you have entered do not disappear. In the future, you can configure your browser for recording and internet browsing simply by toggling Direct connection to the internet and Manual proxy configuration.
