Viewing log interactions

The sequence diagram views provide a number of actions that can be performed to easily view and examine log interactions.

Opening log interactions view

To open a sequence diagram log interaction view, follow these steps:

1. Select a correlation in the Log Navigator view.
2. Right click, then select Open With > Log interactions. The Sequence Diagram log interactions view opens.
3. To identify an event, hover the cursor over it.

The following alternatives can be used when opening the view from a log agent.

• Alternative A
  1. Select one or more log agents in the Log Navigator view.
  2. Right click, then select Open with  > Log Interactions. The Select Log Records Correlation Schema dialog box opens.
  3. Click OK to associate log records by timestamp. The Sequence Diagram Log thread interactions view opens.
  4. To identify an event, hover the cursor over it.
• Alternative B
  1. Select one or more log agents in the Log Navigator view.
  2. Create a new log correlation.
  3. Select the newly created correlation.
  4. Right-click, then select Open With > Log Interactions. The Sequence Diagram Log interactions view opens.

Opening log thread interactions

To view thread interactions among log records, grouped by threads, follow the procedures listed in Opening log interactions view. In step 2 use Open with  > Log Thread interactions when selecting the view.

Opening diagram overview

For large views where scrolling is required, the overview can be used to navigate to and from different pages within the sequence diagram.
To open the sequence diagram overview, click on the button at the right-hand corner of the view. The sequence diagram overview is displayed.

Navigating through log records

For views with multiple pages, there are several methods of navigation available.

• Toolbar drop-down menu
  From the toolbar drop-down menu, select Navigation. The navigation menu opens. Select any of the navigation actions.
• Toolbar and drop-down menu buttons
  Use the   Go to next page and   Go to previous page icons to navigate from one page to another.
• Pages dialog
  1. From the toolbar drop-down menu, select Pages. The Sequence Diagram pages opens.
  2. Type the page number that you want to go to. Click OK. The log interactions refreshes to the page entered.
• Go to source or target of a correlation
  1. Select a correlation.
  2. Right click to bring up the pop up menu.
     • To go to the source node of the correlation, select Go to source. The source node is highlighted.
     • To go to the target node of the correlation, select Go to target. The target node is highlighted.
• Go to the source of a correlation that is on another page

  For a correlation target that is on another page, you can quickly jump to the target by following these steps:

  1. Select the correlation (arrow pointing to a dot).

     

  2. Right click. The popup menu opens.. Select Go to target. If there is only a one-to-one correlation, the view window refreshes and shows the target record. If there is more than one target, the Select event dialog box opens.

     

  3. Select an event from the list. Click OK. The view window refreshes and shows the target event.
• Go to the target of a correlation that is on another page.

  For a correlation source that is on another page, you can quickly jump to the source by following these steps:

  1. Select the correlation (arrow pointing away from a dot).

     

  2. Right click. The popup menu opens.. Select Go to source. If there is only a one-to-one correlation, the view window refreshes and shows the source record. If there is more than one source, the Select event dialog box opens.

  3. Select an event from the list. Click OK. The view window refreshes and shows the source record.

The page size in the views can be adjusted in the preferences. Please see the section on Customizing page size.

Viewing log interactions with the same timestamp

Log records within a log file that have the same timestamp are shown as a single node .

• To expand the node, select the node. Right click and select Expand node.. All records within that node are displayed.
• To examine a log record in the expanded node, select the record and use the pop up menu actions to examine the properties of the record or to open the record in the log view.
  
  

• To collapse the node, select the top most node with this icon .
  Right click and select Collapse node.

Viewing properties of log interactions

From the log interactions view, to view the properties sheet of a log record or correlation, follow these steps:

1. Select a log node or a correlation.
2. Right click and select Properties. The properties sheet displays the log record for the selected log node or the correlations for the selected log correlation.
