Importing and using a symptom database
At least one symptom database must be imported and in use for log analysis.
You can import a symptom database either from a remote server or from the
localhost. An imported database must also be in use.
Identifying and importing a symptom database
Two sources for symptom database are identified by default. These need
to be imported before use.
If you intend to use other remote symptom databases, identify their locations
and then import them.
Identify remote symptom database sources
To specify where to obtain a remote symptom database, follow these steps:
- Select Window > Preferences > Profiling and Logging >
Symptom Database. The list of known remote symptom databases appears
along with their
Web addresses (URLs).
- To add a new symptom database location, click Add URL, then enter a
name and its Web address. Click OK.
- If required, use Edit URL or Delete URL to make other changes to
the list.
- Click Apply to apply your updates.
- To close the Preferences window, click OK.
Importing a symptom database
To specify the symptom databases against which you want to analyze log
records, follow these directions.
If you are importing a symptom database for the first time:
- Select File > Import
- Select Symptom Database File, then click Next. The import
wizard appears.
If you have several symptom databases in use:
- Select Window > Preferences > Profiling and Logging > Log
View > Symptom Database. A list appears showing the symptom databases
that are presently imported. The checkboxes indicate whether an imported
database is being used. Notice that the extension for the imported
symptom database is .trcdbxmi, which stands for trace database XML metadata
interchange.
- To use a database, select it; to stop using a database, deselect it.
- To start the import wizard, click Import Database.
Follow these steps while in the import wizard:
- Specify whether to obtain the database from a Remote host
or from the Local host, then identify the host.

- Specify the project location and the file name that the
database should have once it is imported.
- Ensure that the selected options are as required.
- Click Finish to import the database. The updated list
of imported databases appears.
- Click Apply to apply your updates.
- To close the Preferences window, click OK.
An imported database may be in use or it may not. To enable a symptom
database for use, follow these steps:
- Select Window > Preferences > Profiling and Logging > Log
View > Symptom Database
- Select the databases. Click Apply.
- To close the Preferences window, click OK.
