Managing key stores

In MTJ, managing key stores includes:

Key store management is handled in the Security Management for MTJ Applications window, in the Key Management tab.

Note: In the Certificate Management tab, you can import certificates into the Default ME Key store. With this functionality, you can manage (list, import and delete) the public keys of certificate authority. This functionality requires that your signing provider supports Root Certificate Management. If the active Signing Provider does not support Root Certificate Management, the Certificate Management tab is not available. Signing providers are configured in MTJ preferences.

Note: To manage the key stores in MTJ, you need to have the Security Manager plug-ins installed and configured.

To create a new key store for a key pair

When you create a new key store, you are also prompted to create a new key pair.

  1. In the menu bar, select MTJ -> Application Security, or in the tool bar, select .
    The Security Management for MTJ Applications window opens.
  2. Select the Key Management tab.
  3. Select Create a New Key Pair.
    The New Keystore window opens.
  4. In the New Keystore window, specify the desired location and name of the new key store and click Save.
    The Enter password window opens.
  5. In the Enter password window, enter and confirm the password for the key store.
    The password has to be at least 6 characters long.
  6. Click OK.
    The New Key Pair window opens.
  7. In the New Key Pair window, enter the desired key pair alias, common name, organizational name, locality name, state name and country and click Create.
    A confirmation window appears.
  8. Click OK.
    The new key store is created and the new key pair is stored in it. The location of the key store is displayed in the Location field.

To open a key store

You can open a key store to view the contents of the key store file.

  1. In the menu bar, select MTJ -> Application Security, or in the tool bar, select ..
    The Security Management for MTJ Applications window opens.
  2. Select the Key Management tab.
  3. In the Key Store field, select Open.
    The Open key store window opens.
  4. Select the desired key store from the list and click Open.
    The Enter password window opens, unless you have already entered a valid password for the selected key store during the current session.
  5. In the Enter password window, enter the password for the key store and click OK.
    The password is cached
    A confirmation window appears.
  6. Click OK.
    The location of the key store is displayed in the Location field and the contents of the file are displayed in the Key Aliases field.

To change the password for a key store

  1. In the menu bar, select MTJ -> Application Security or in the tool bar, select ..
    The Security Management for MTJ Applications window opens.
  2. Select the Key Management tab.

    Note: You have to open a key store before you can change the password for it. If the key store you want is not active in the Location field, open the right key store as instructed above to activate it before attempting to change the password.

  3. In the Security Management for MTJ Applications window, click Change Password.
    The Change Password window opens.
  4. In the Change Password window, enter the old password once and the new password twice in the respective fields.
  5. Click OK.
    A confirmation window appears.
  6. Click OK.
