Configuring Signing Provider plug-ins

Before you can sign applications in MTJ, you have to configure the Signing Provider plug-ins. In MTJ, there are by default two different Signing Provider plug-ins, although more can be added. The default plug-ins are:

• org.eclipse.mtj.extension.sp.wtk
  This plug-in supports SUN’s Wireless Tool Kit 2.2 JadTool signing tool.
  You can download the tool from:
  http://java.sun.com/products/sjwtoolkit/
• org.eclipse.mtj.extension.sp.j9
  This plug-in supports IBM’s J9 IVE 2.3 "jadsigner" signing tool.
  You can download the tool from:
  http://www-306.ibm.com/software/wireless/weme/

The Signing Provider plug-ins are located in your workspace for MTJ (###OPEN ISSUE <4>###). They are configured in MTJ preferences.  To configure the Signing Providers, you need the jad signing tools installed in your computer.

Note: These signing tools allow you to sign your applications securely so that the mobile devices accept the application without returning a security dialog about untrusted providers.

To configure a Signing Provider plug-in

1. In the menu bar, select Window -> Preferences.
   The Preferences window opens.(###OPEN ISSUE <27>###)
   
   
    

2. In the Preferences window, in the left-side pane, expand Mobile Tools for the Java Platform and select Signing.
   The Signing pane opens on the right side.
3. In the Description field, highlight the desired plug-in and click Edit.
   The Signing Provider Configuration window opens.
4. In the Signing Provider Configuration window, in the Tool location field, do one of the following:
   • Specify the location of the signing tool that is supported by the plug-in you are configuring.

• Click Search to browse to the location of the signing tool that is supported by the plug-in you are configuring.

5. Click OK.
6. Repeat steps 3 - 5 for all the Signing Provider plug-ins that you want to configure.
7. In the Preferences window, click OK to store the configuration changes and to exit Preferences.

Note: Signing Provider plug-in is activated by checking the box next to the desired plug-in in the Signing pane in the Preferences window.
