Creating a Control Markup Language file

Each Control Markup Language (CML) file describes one device, transport, device test or transport test. Device refers to a software device that is a logical container for commands, measurements, and signals. Transports translate the message received from the device into a format the hardware device can understand. Tests enable you to validate the structure of the CML file and to validate the communication with the intended hardware.

You can create a CML file in any text editor. Refer to the following guidelines to create a CML file:

• The root CML tag is <cml>. Place this tag at the beginning and ending of every CML file.
• Use the <device>, <transport>, <devicetest> or <transporttest> tag to identify the type of CML file you want to create.
• Verify that the subtags and attributes you use are valid for the type of CML file you want to create by reviewing the CML tag descriptions.
