File Selector Pane

The File Selector pane, normally found on the left side of the editor window, lets you perform file operations with the editor. Controls and fields that appear in this pane are:

Pane minimize button
This button is found on the left side of the File Selector pane title bar. Clicking the button minimizes the width of the pane until only a restore button remains visible. The Editor pane expands to take up window space vacated by the minimized File Selector pane.

Pane restore button
When the File Selector pane is minimized, this button replaces the minimize button on the left side of the pane's title bar. Clicking this button restores the pane to its original size before minimizing, and the minimize button appears to replace the button on the pane's title bar.

Pane maximize button
This button is found on the right side of the File Selector pane title bar. Clicking the button maximizes the width of this pane within the editor window, and the restore button appears to replace the button on the pane's title bar.

Pane restore button
When the File Selector pane is maximized, this button replaces the maximize button on the right side of the pane's title bar. Clicking this button restores the pane to its original size before maximizing, and the maximize button appears to replace the button on the pane's title bar.
Drive Selection field This field, located directly below the title bar of the File Selector pane, contains a dropdown drive selection list that can be accessed by clicking on the button at the right end of the field.

The drive selection chosen from this list determines which files are displayed in the File Tree area. Selections and their meanings are:

Recently Opened Files
Only the names of files recently opened for editing are shown in the File Tree area.
Open Files
Only the names of files currently open for editing are shown in the File Tree area.
Available system directories and files
Shows all files and directories available on your system. Use this selection to find and open for editing a file that has not been recently edited.
User-defined shortcuts to drives
Shows user-defined shortcut entries to specific directories. To create your own shortcut, find the directory for which you want a shortcut entry, then select the Selected->Add directories to drive list action from the editor menubar to add the shortcut to the drive selection list.
File Tree area Shows a list of file names and/or directories relevant to the current selection in the Drive Selection field.

A color-coded file icon appears beside each file entry in this area. Color codes and their meanings are:

  • Open file with no unsaved changes
  • Open file with unsaved changes
  • File not open for editing.

Clicking on the name of an open file makes that file the current file in the editor. Clicking on the name of a unopened file opens that file for editing. Right-clicking on a file name opens a pop-up menu with selections appropriate to the current state of the chosen file.
